HHO marks 50th anniversary

The Henry Hadaway Organisation celebrates 50 years in the music business.

Home to one of the most diverse catalogues of vintage music, the firm stands today as one of the UK’s longest running independents. Since its inception in 1969, HHO has been a key player in both the British frontline label scene and back-catalogue licensing division.

Henry Hadaway, director and founder of HHO, started his music career in promotion and management, booking prestigious acts including David Bowie, Iggy Pop and groups from the Motown roster. He founded Satril Records during the seventies, producing and releasing many punk, prog-rock and disco hits. He is most notably successful for his release of “The Birdie Song” by The Tweets, which featured number 2 in the UK singles chart during the eighties.

The company in recent years has scaled back its operation to focus on content licensing, and strengthening its position as a principal licensor.

“It’s been a really interesting and great journey,” said Henry Hadaway. “The industry has changed a lot, especially over the last 20 years with the growth of technology and digital music consumption. Licensing has always been a key part of our business model though. Distributors come and go, but concentrating our efforts into gaining and owning product has helped us greatly. That, along with perseverance and a strong outlook toward international markets.”

HHO are proud to be celebrating this 50-year milestone and will be holding a party in London during the coming weeks for its employees, clients and partners across the industry.
